Insert foot here.

I find it hilarious that just a few days after I posted about how much I love being a stay at home Mom, I find myself clicking the "submit" button a job application. Yeah, hilarious... real hilarious. {can you hear my sarcasm?}

The post you read prior to this is, however, the truth. I love love love staying home with the boys and wouldn't have it any other way, if it was up to me. Unfortunately, our bills that are piling up and the phone calls I'm getting do not agree with me and don't care what I want.

Just a couple weeks ago my husbands hours were cut at work. While we're so thankful he still has a job, his new paycheck with the lack of hours just isn't doing it for us. I have to be realistic and see the bottom line and {deep sigh} realize that no matter how hard we try, it's just not happening. We were doing alright before his hours got cut, but now? No good. It's not good at all.

... fighting back the tears ...

I'm not looking at full time office/bank jobs, I'm not looking at full time anything. I simply submitted an application for a small part time (10-15 hours) job, during the evening, after my husband gets home from work. I have this pit in the bottom of my stomach thinking about missing out on husband time {seriously, when will I see him?}, family time, dinner time, putting the boys to bed time, grey's anatomy/the bachelor time, etc... but we're drowning and I don't know what else to do.

The good news is, if I get the job it's something I always thought sounded fun.

Prayers for me during this transitional time are much appreciated, and needed.

A stay at home Mom.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a Mom, but always thought I'd be a working Mom. Never ever ever did I think I would have the desire to be a stay at home Mom... I thought all they did was sat around and ate bon-bons all day long. The last day of work before I went into labor I even said to my boss "don't you worry, I'll be back in 6 short weeks." Just days after Jaxon was born I knew my heart had changed, but unfortunately our financial situation did not allow for this to happen, and the first 14 months of his life, I was a working Mama. All you have to do is read through posts during this time to see how much I hated it, and how much my heart just longed for more time with my boy.

On April 7th, just 2 days shy of Jaxon's 14 month mark, I lost my job. At the time, it was the worst case scenario, because y'all remember... Tyler had just been laid-off 2 months prior, so now we had no income and no medical benefits. But it turns out that this was all apart of God's plan... to give me the desire of my heart and to be able to stay home with Jaxon {and later on Cohen also!}

Being a stay at home Mom has been my favorite job of all times. And just in case you have the mind-set that I once did, there is no such thing as sitting and eating bon-bons all day long... most days, there's no such thing as sitting for more than 10 minutes at a time at all, especially now adding Cohen to the mix.

Just for kicks and giggles, I thought I'd do a comparison of the two jobs.

My old job: The boss was rude, self-promoting, and full of himself.
My new job: I receive hugs and kisses multiple times through the day.

My old job: Had high expectations. Demanded a lot from me and set unrealistic rules.
My new job: I am told "thank you" and get asked for things with a "please".

My old job: Didn't appreciate the hard work that I gave to the team.
My new job: I am rewarded frequently through the day with smiles and laughs.

My old job: Put me in uncomfortable situations.
My new job: Makes me feel loved. Makes me feel wanted, and needed.

My old job: Had a dress code.
My new job: Love me just the way I am.

My old job: Greeted me each morning with a to-do list.
My new job: Greet me each morning with a hug and smile.

My old job: Days were dreaming about the time my shift would end.
My new job: Days are spent not wanting our time to slip away too quickly.

My old job: Left each day feeling insignificant, and like I didn't matter.
My new job: Lay my head on the pillow at night and count my blessings. Let out a big sigh of contentment.

My old job: Pushed me to my limits and tested my patience daily.
My new job: Pushes me to my limits and tests my patience daily. ;)

I am so so so blessed to be able to stay home with my boys and would not trade this job for anything in the world. There are days that are not perfect, days that I'm left feeling lonely and frustrated, but I wouldn't trade this opportunity to be able to raise my boys and train them to be men of God for all the money a "career job" would get me.

I know there's a lot of working Moms that love what they do, and I'm so happy for them. I also know there's a lot of stay at home Moms that love what they do, and I'm equally happy for them, also. Do what works for you and your family and of course pray about it, that's all I can suggest to you as you figure out what you want to do.

As for me, you'll find me each day doing, saying, and singing ridiculous things to get my boys to smile and laugh, comforting and kissing "owie's", chasing my 2 year old around the house, changing dozens of diapers, breathing deep while they're both screaming, giving lots of hugs and kisses, enjoying my diet coke in peace during nap time, going on lots of walks and playdates, taking hundreds of pictures, looking for opportunities to teach numbers, colors, and words ......

...... and loving every second of it.

Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Cloth diaper Q&A

Can I just tell you how much I love helping people, whether that's as simple as praying for them, helping them by watching their kids, encouraging someone on a bad day, or answering questions about a subject that I'm passionate about?

I love it when people think of me to ask me questions, so imagine my excitement when I get a facebook message or email from multiple people asking me for more information on cloth diapers, or help with breastfeeding. I.love.it.

This post is geared towards those ladies, so if you have no interest in it, feel free to mentally 'check out'. I thought I would post the questions I've received and the answers I've given, so that I can direct people here instead of replying to multiple messages. :)

1. What brand of diapers do you use, and how did you decide on them when there's so many choices out there?

We chose the bumGenius 4.0 one size diapers (in snaps, not hook/loop)... solely for the reason that I didn't feel like checking out multiple brands and trying out different types and these had been recommended to me by a lot of people that I trust! I know there's lots and lots of kinds, and I'm sure they're all great in their own way... but we LOVE ours. Also love that they are one size, so we'll never have to buy diapers again. No regrets!

2. How many do you need in order to CD (cloth diaper) exclusively?

The "experts" say you need 24 in order to only have to do laundry every 2-3 days. I have 22 diapers, and I think it's more than enough. I wash every 2nd day, it just works best with my schedule.

3. Is there any special detergents you're supposed to use, or can you just use a regular kind?

Here's a list of detergents that are CD safe: http://www.diaperjungle.com/detergent-chart.html

We use Rock Green detergent because that's what our local store sells, but I love it and will never switch.

4. But really, what do you do with the poopy diapers?

This question makes me laugh because I used to literally think the same exact thing. If you're a breastfeeding mama, all you do is throw the diaper in the wash... poop and all. Once the baby starts eating solids, or if you formula feed, you have to spray the diaper prior to washing it. You can do this by buying a diaper sprayer. We have one, but haven't used it yet, because I breastfeed and Cohen does not eat solids yet. As gross as it may sound to you if you don't have a child yet, you will soon realize that the things that come out of your child will not gross you out as bad as you think they will. Seriously, poop is no big deal around here.

5. What do you do with the dirty diapers until wash day?

You will store them in a wet bag. I have one large size for home, and one small size for my diaper bag. You throw the dirty diaper in the bag, then on wash day you dump the diapers into your washer, flip the bag inside out, and it gets washed also. This is great so that you're never touching a dirty diaper.

6. What do you do when you're on the go and your baby has a dirty diaper?

Same thing you would if you were using disposables, except you obviously won't throw it away. You simply take the dirty diaper, put it in your wet bag that you keep in your diaper bag, and add it to your stash of dirty diapers once you get home. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

7. Do you have to hang them to dry, or can you put them in the dryer?

It is recommended that you dry the inserts using your dryer, but hang/air dry the covers. I hang/air dry all of it on sunny days... the less I can use my dryer, the better... less of an electricity bill and also so much better for the diapers!

8. What made you want to cloth diaper?

First and foremost, the amount of money we'll save. Secondly, the fact that I'm home with the boys already, so why not? Third - they're flippin' cuter than cute. Fourth, they are great on my baby's super sensitive skin! Fifth - the environment! Disposables leave behind an average of 2.7 tons of non-biodegradable waste per child!

I think that's all the questions I've received but if you have more, please ask!

Like I've said a million times, I'm no expert but I'm always happy to let you know what we're doing and what does/doesn't work for us.

Only one regret with cloth diapers... that we didn't do it sooner!

Pretty wordless.

Not a lot happening in our neck of the woods so we'll close out this week with a post full of pictures ... we spent lots of time outdoors this week with the beautiful 70 degree weather!

He heard an airplane...

Still watching it fly around...

Cohen hears the airplane too...

Tellin' me all about it!

Hugs!

Hopefully he learns to look forward while driving before he turns 16... :)

My big boy holding his head up so well!

Have an amazing weekend!

For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

A beautiful morning.

Hands down, my absolute favorite part of the day is the time I get to spend with Jesus each morning before everyone else wakes up.

This is a new thing for me. My entire life I grew up in a church and knew that you're supposed to have devotions daily. I would do it on and off, but never consistently. The church we attend {Antioch} is huge on daily quiet time with Jesus, and until we started going and I started realizing that my relationship with my maker could only go 'so' far without this, I never really grasped the concept. Just recently I have been encouraged by my friends through Life Group, and through our "young moms with young kids" bible study at church. All the sudden I had this growing desire to get to know Him, to really get to know Him.

I love this time of day. While most people are still sleeping, I am able to worship, engage, read, cry, and dig deep into His word. By the time my boys wake up, I feel refreshed. I am able to greet them with a smile, instead of groaning and begging them to go back to sleep so that I, too, could sleep just a while longer and waking up cranky when they don't.

This is all still new to me, and I'm still figuring out what this really looks like. There's also days {like this morning}, that about 5 minutes into my time with Him, Cohen woke up screaming which meant Jaxon was up shortly after. So I know that there will be days that my time with Him is short and sweet, but other days that I can bask in His presence and soak up that meaningful time. There is no guilt and no condemnation in the "short but sweet" days, as I know those days are full of grace and He loves me the same.

On Monday morning I came across this verse that I want to share with you. I have decided to make it my life verse, as I have never done that before and have always wanted to. I was so excited to find it and I literally read it over and over again and once Tyler woke up, was so excited to share it with him also.

Romans 12:12

"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

Joyful in the hope that He's given us. Patient in the hard times. Faithful in prayer through it all.

So excited to be doing this each day. If you're not already, I would encourage you to carve out a time in your day to do the same. It is so refreshing and life giving.

On that same note, I am looking for some ideas on some books/devotionals that I can be doing during this time. Anyone have a recommendation?

He's two!

Well, first things first. We obviously survived Jaxon's birthday party... it ended up turning out really well, although by the time the party was over we were all ready for a nap! A couple different families cancelled last minute so we ended up with 8 kids and 6 adults. It was the perfect size party so everything worked out perfectly.

A few pics...

very very simple Cars decorations... definitely nothing over the top :)

favor bags for the kiddos

the weather was decent so the kids were able to play outside which helped a lot!

our families were not able to come, but grandpa did join us via skype for the party. aunt kallie also watched part of it during her lunch break.

delicious and cute cupcakes!

the kiddos! jax has some really great friends here!

smiling from ear to ear while everyone sang happy birthday to him... love!

my big two year old!
side note: that shirt was finished only 30 minutes prior to the party. i ordered one from etsy 3 weeks before, and 2 days before the party when i emailed her asking for a tracking number, she decided to inform me that she was never able to make it, and "oops, sorry i forgot to tell you". anyway, long story short i found a place here in town that does embroidery. tyler thought i was crazy when i sent him at 9:00 the morning of the party to pick it up :)

his gift from us... a rody horse. (http://rodytoy.com/)

A couple days later was his actual birthday, and I made it through the day with a minimal amount of tears being shed. I am looking forward to this next year with him and was just a tad sad about how fast time has gone. I am so thankful I am able to stay home with him and Cohen and watch them change day by day!

birthday waffles!

we had plans to spend the day with friends, but because of an ice and snow storm that hit us, we stayed home and had a movie and popcorn day instead.

jax is always so happy when daddy gets home!
and look at tyler's smile... does he adore this boy or what?!
i may have the pickiest eater on my hands, but the one thing he devours is a McDonalds cheeseburger and fries. ironic, right? so we got him his favorite dinner on his birthday.

a birthday cupcake! he blew out the candles before we even started singing.

this is the one bite of a cupcake he had... apparently he's not a fan.

one last present to open from mommy & daddy

a firetruck puzzle!

We had a great time celebrating our 2 year old boy and I'm thankful I don't have to plan another birthday party for 8 months. :)
