I am called many things.
Daughter, by my Maker and parents.
Wife, by my husband.
Mommy, by my kids.
Sister, by my siblings.
"In law", by my extended family.
Miss Megan, by the kids I babysit.
Niece. Cousin. Friend. Photographer.
I've been thinking a lot about what's in a name. Recently, Jaxon has dropped the "my" part of Mommy, and is just calling me Mom.
To be honest, I hate it. If you've heard him say it, you've also heard me correct him by saying "No, Mommy..." and then he will start his sentence over with the 'correct' name.
I don't know why, but it makes me sad to be called Mom... it's almost like a stab in the heart. It's something a teenage boy calls his Mom, once he's gotten too cool for his own good.
Someone please tell me you get this. I just want to bottle up the title "Mommy" and be called that forever.
I miss my babies something fierce, but ohmygoodness I'm so thankful for FaceTime. Jaxon told me a story last night... it went something like this:
"I have a Bible Story for you. Jesus rode on the train. The train went over the shaky shaky bridge and fell off into the mud."
Cohen has been learning lots of new words this week, of course my favorite one to hear is Mama when he sees me on the iPad.
I'm happy to see them so happy. But I can't wait until they're in my arms again.
Today I ran 3 miles that were the suckiest of all time, had lunch with a close friend, and we shopped afterwards. I had no little boys to chase after in the store and actually got to enjoy my lunch.
And tonight we had a spontaneous date night. We were LONG overdue, and we got to talk about lots of things... like the boys, the boys, and the boys. :)
No actually, we talked about how if we have a #3 that we want to wait to find out the sex, AND I asked him what he thought about me doing a VBA2C.
Parenthood in 20 minutes!

Lovin the new blog design! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteI think it's wonderful to have some time alone. Really good for the soul and makes you appreciate your kids even more.
And you should totally go for a VBA2C! If we have a third I really want to wait to find out too :)
Oh my gosh, Jack says Mom. I dont know where he learned it, but he started dropping Mommy and just saying mom, and ugh, breaks my heart! Even my sister noticed and gasped and said "when did he stop saying mommy?!"
ReplyDeleteI thought I would have a few more YEARS as Mommy.
Also - Is this design new or am I crazy? I like it!!
ReplyDeleteI was just telling this to Kristal yesterday, but the other day, Lizzy called me by my full name. First, middle, and last. I was like "WHAT?! THAT IS NOT ALLOWED!"
ReplyDeleteShe's also recently taken to calling me "parents". As in "Hey parents, can I watch Dora?" Not thrilled.
I don't blame you at all! I am holding on to "Mama" for as long as I can. No "MOM"!! Booo!!!
