Just a random thought swimming through my brain today so I thought I'd ask y'all...
Do you buy name brand food, or off-brand at the grocery store? {do you shop at Whole Foods or Aldi?}
For us, we always been fairly middle of the line... HyVee is generally my first choice, or while we lived in Waco we shopped at HEB. Not a big fan of WalMart and Target is a little pricey, in my opinion.
Due to budget cuts, we now get most of our groceries at Aldi, and our meat & produce I still buy at HyVee. On the very few weeks that I do all of my shopping at HyVee, I'm very specific about buying off-brand while there.
This is a new thing for my husband, as he definitely prefers name brand food. He swears they taste different, and I would agree that a few things do. Peanut Butter, Mac 'n Cheese, and coffee creamer... those are a few of the items that I buy name brand but the rest of it I could care less about.
How about you?
I do most of my shopping at Whole Foods where I buy the store brand if it's available.
ReplyDeleteWe buy a lot of store brand stuff. The place where we do most of our grocery shopping (Schnucks) has an organic store brand, and I buy a lot of their products - peanut butter, canned veggies, spaghetti sauce, fruit leathers. I buy store brand juice and milk. The rare times we buy frozen veggies, I buy name brand. I buy name brand bread...I guess it's really a mix of things!
ReplyDeleteTwo things that I ALWAYS buy name brand - toilet paper (Charmin) and paper towels (Bounty).
I mostly buy name brand and try to use coupons. However, if it's a big cost difference and I don't have coupons, I will buy WalMart's generic (Great Value). I do NOT like the Price Chopper and HyVee generics for most things, but I'll buy them in a pinch if it's just something like apple juice or canned tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteWalmart's generic Great Value just really can't be beat. I hate shopping at Walmart but my grocery bill is always so much lower when I do!
ReplyDeleteWalmart has been a grocery staple for me until recently because of prices and convenience. I have started shopping at cub but really the prices at Walmart are so much cheaper. Specifically on most of the cereal Walmart is over a dollar a box cheaper. I do a little bit of generic but there is stuff like mac n' cheese I can't handle the generic flavor. Ranch and some of that stuff I also buy name brand. However, boxed noodles and even some of the soups I cook with I do generic. Happy shopping! Jody
ReplyDeleteWe shop at Aldi, where basically everything is their brand.
